Project Description

My goal for this project was to create multiple cohesive renders based around a common theme of my choosing. I had a variety of 3D models that I had already created and decided to use those as the basis for my project. I took previous models of various spacecraft as well as some newly created ones and placed them into a series of settings. I then used a render engine and exported those images to make adjustments and add backgrounds.

I wanted to include scenes both in space, and on a planets surface. In order to connect these two distinct settings, I showed a planet in the background of one image, and then used that same planet as the setting for another.

The Compositions had to be dynamic and keep the viewers eye moving throughout the piece. My main methods to achieve this was to have the ships point at one another, and use planets and nebulas around the border to redirect the viewer to the image.

While creating these compositions I wanted to create a story, based around two warring factions. I did so by including common background elements across multiple renders but from different perspectives.

On top of this, another goal was to include a variety of Sci-fi elements and effects such as smoke, flames, explosions, engine thrusts, lasers, shields, nebulas and other celestial bodies.

Rylva Airbase

This piece depicts an airbase on a red, rocky planet called Rylva. Ships are taking off from the runway while cruisers protect the base from above.

Battle over Rylva

A Hostile cruiser has been spotted entering Rylva's atmosphere. Fighters move to intercept it while ground forces prepare their defenses.

Airbase Assault

The cruiser has broken through their defenses and the airbase is now under attack as fighters scramble to protect the base. The hostile cruiser provides support via orbital bombardment while shuttles land troops on the ground.

Orbital Blockade

A series of cruisers are protecting the planet below. Squadrons of fighters patrol the space around the planet while the space station serves as the base of operations, shielded from attack.

Surprise Attack

Allied forces are caught by surprise as they break free of the nebula to find a hostile cruiser waiting for them. They enact a desperate charge to break through and return to friendly space
